Abstract
Operations Research (OR) is the discipline of applying mathematical models, optimisation techniques and analytical methods to help organisations make better decisions. It began in military logistics in World War II and is now used in manufacturing, healthcare, transport, finance, energy and education. An OR study typically follows a fixed path: define the real problem, collect data, build a mathematical model, solve it with a suitable technique, test the solution against reality, and implement it.
