Abstract
“There is no tool for development more effective than the empowerment of women.” — Kofi Annan, this quotation emphasizes that women's empowerment is essential for the overall development of society. Historically, women were often excluded from education, political authority and economic opportunities. Their empowerment enables them to participate in decision-making and contribute to social progress. Women’s empowerment refers to strengthening women’s position within the socio-political power structure of society. Women’s political empowerment and social status in India have undergone significant changes throughout history. From a relatively favourable position in the early historical period to the challenges of social discrimination and patriarchal traditions, women have continuously struggled for equality and recognition. Therefore, women's empowerment requires not only legal protection and government support but also changes in social attitudes, increased awareness of rights, and equal opportunities in all spheres of life. The empowerment of women is not merely a women's issue but a necessary condition for democratic development, social progress, and nation-building. A society that ensures dignity, equality, and opportunities for women can achieve inclusive and sustainable development.
